It all began with four friends and a frozen pond. No stadium, no stands, no facility: just the cold of Valcanale, a puck and the desire to play. From that informal, slightly improvised beginning came one of the most beautiful sporting stories in this corner of Friuli, and today the Palavuerich in Pontebba is a 2,500-seat arena hosting international hockey, figure skating and short track competitions.
With MACA, the Palavuerich becomes a stop in the story of the territory. Not just a sports venue, but a place that carries the history of a community that transformed a winter tradition into an identity. The MACA point dedicated to the Palavuerich tells you about the origins of hockey in Pontebba, the generations of athletes who grew up on this ice, and the relationship between the facility and village life.
Because the Palavuerich is not only visited: it is experienced. You can learn to skate, watch a match or simply spend a few hours in a place that has far more to tell than it seems from the outside. When there is no ice, the facility hosts tennis, volleyball and five-a-side football, as well as a wellness area and a gym open all year round.
Before going, it is worth checking opening hours and the events calendar.
