Parco Delle Mura

Four kilometres through the heart of Verona, from the historic centre to the greenery of the Parco delle Mura. With MACA, the route tells the story of Venetian fortification architecture, the great city gates and the places tourists do not look for - and that even Veronese people often do not know.

Verona is not only the Arena and Juliet. There is a city within the city that most visitors never see: the one hidden along the sixteenth-century walls, among imposing bastions, monumental gates and breathtaking views over the river.
The MACA route of the Parco delle Mura starts from Piazza Bra, just a few steps from the Arena, and winds for four kilometres through Verona's historic heart to the green space of the Parco delle Mura. It is a route that alternates between the liveliest part of the centre and the unexpected quiet of the Scaliger bastions, built in the sixteenth century to a design by Michele Sanmicheli to protect the city from the threat of foreign armies.
With MACA, every stop along the route becomes a story. The MACA points distributed along the itinerary accompany you as you discover Venetian military architecture, the historical events linked to the city's great gates - Porta Nuova, Porta Palio and Porta San Zeno - and the details you notice only when someone points them out. Not a guided tour, not a technical audio guide: a walk that knows how to tell a story.
The route is of medium difficulty, takes about two hours and is suitable in every season. In spring and autumn the Parco delle Mura offers extraordinary colours; in summer the walls provide shade and coolness just a few steps from the tourist crowds of the centre. A different way to experience Verona, even if you have always lived there.
