There is a particular silence in certain corners of the Julian Alps. It is not the silence of an empty mountain; it is the silence of places that have seen things no one would want to remember, but that it is important not to forget. This route takes its name from that silence.
The Silence Bike Tour is the first MACA itinerary dedicated to cyclists. Fifty-two kilometres crossing four Alpine valleys - Valcanale, Canal del Ferro, Val Dogna and Val Saisera - following the historic lines of the First World War fronts. Thirteen stops, each with its own story, together compose a narrative spanning a century: trenches, defensive positions, a hundred-year-old fort and the silent landscapes where one of the most devastating wars in European history was fought.
With MACA, every stop along the route becomes a voice. The app accompanies cyclists along the trail, telling the stories of the places, the battles and the soldiers who crossed these same valleys a century ago: the same Alpine landscape, the same peaks of the Julian Alps, but a completely different historical context.
The route is classified as demanding and requires good physical preparation. For those who are less trained or want to enjoy the route without excessive effort, an e-bike is the right choice. The route starts from Ugovizza, and it is recommended to plan stops, water supplies and clothing suitable for changes in altitude.
