Have you ever noticed those white-and-red markers that indicate mountain trails? In Pordenone, you’ll find them in the city too. The City Trail is an urban route of around eleven kilometres, created in 2025 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the CAI of Pordenone and bring a little of the mountains into the city’s streets, parks and neighbourhoods. Around two and a half hours of walking to discover Pordenone from a different perspective.
The route begins in the historic heart of the city, the ancient Portus Naonis, and follows one of the great protagonists of Pordenone’s history: water. The Noncello River, resurgence springs, ponds and ancient canals tell the story of a city whose development was closely linked to water, giving rise to ports, mills, cotton mills, craft workshops and industries. Along the way, you’ll pass through Seminary Park, the Torre district, San Valentino Park and Galvani Park, alternating between nature and history without ever really leaving the city.
With MACA, each stop adds another piece to the story. Along the way, you’ll encounter a Roman villa and a medieval castle, old washhouses and industrial heritage, the world of the Alpini and that of the CAI, murals that can be explored through touch, routes designed for blind people and parks created to be enjoyed by everyone. And there’s more: the Comics Palace, the MIRA rose garden, Pordenonelegge, Cinemazero and works of art scattered throughout the city centre. Eleven MACAs showing how nature, culture, inclusion and memory can all come together along the same route.
It’s an easy walk, almost entirely flat, around eleven kilometres long and can be completed in about two and a half hours, not including stops. But the best part is not being in a hurry: stopping in the parks, watching the water, visiting a museum or simply discovering a corner of the city that you would normally pass by without noticing.
Follow the white-and-red trail markers, look for the eleven MACAs along the route and collect them in the app. If you manage to find them all, a small prize will be waiting for you at the end of the trail.
Download the MACA app, fill up your water bottle and set off to discover Pordenone. This time, you don’t need mountains to walk a CAI trail.
