There are routes you take to get somewhere, and routes you take for the pleasure of walking. The Way of the Spirit belongs to the second category, and its name already says so.
The path starts from the square of Malborghetto and climbs into the woods following the chapels of the Stations of the Cross, painted in vivid colours that emerge among the green of the trees like signs of an ancient journey. Half a kilometre of gentle ascent, thirty minutes at most, to a small white church that appears when the forest opens onto a meadow.
It is a short, very easy route, suitable for everyone, but far from ordinary. The Stations of the Cross accompanying the climb tell of a popular devotion rooted in this territory for centuries, made of simple gestures repeated over time by generations of Valcanale inhabitants. With MACA, the chapels and the church become stages in a broader story: the history of Alpine spirituality, the bond between community and landscape, and the meaning of a journey that is not only physical.
The path can be walked all year round. In winter it may be slippery, so it is best to proceed carefully.
